Treadmill tutorial

The treadmill lets you walk or run indoors while precisely controlling intensity through speed and incline. Brisk incline walking builds cardiovascular endurance with less joint stress than running, making it ideal for beginners and fat-loss goals.

How to perform

  1. Stand on the side rails, start the machine and clip the safety key to your clothing.
  2. Step onto the belt at a slow speed and walk easily for 3–5 minutes.
  3. Gradually raise the incline to 5–10% and the speed to a brisk walk.
  4. Stand tall, swing your arms naturally and roll from heel to toe.
  5. Continue at an intensity where you can still speak in short sentences.
  6. Finish by lowering incline and speed for a 3-minute cool-down, then stop the machine.
Breathing: Keep your breathing deep and steady in rhythm with your steps, and reduce speed or incline if you become breathless.

Key tips

  • Don't hold the handrails so the incline actually works.
  • Walk near the front of the belt, not at the back edge.
  • Keep steps short and quick to reduce knee stress.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning on and hanging from the handrails at high incline.
  • Starting fast without a warm-up.
  • Looking down and hunching forward.
Safety: People with heart conditions or knee pain should start flat and slow, increasing intensity gradually.
