Band Calf Raise tutorial

The band calf raise is an isolation exercise for the calves where band tension increases resistance at the top. It is ideal for home or travel workouts.

How to perform

  1. Stand with the balls of your feet on the band, keeping both sides of equal length.
  2. Hold the handles by your shoulders with elbows bent and palms facing forward.
  3. Keep your ankles straight and your body upright.
  4. Rise onto your toes until the calves are fully contracted.
  5. Pause for one second at the top.
  6. Lower your heels slowly and repeat.
Breathing: Exhale as you rise and inhale as you lower.

Key tips

  • Lower slowly to feel a full calf stretch.
  • Keep your weight over the base of the big toe.
  • Lightly touch a wall for better balance.

Common mistakes

  • Bouncing instead of controlling the movement.
  • Bending the knees.
  • Using a short range of motion.
Safety: Use an undamaged band and secure it under your feet. Stop if you feel pain in the Achilles tendon.
